When people read Little House in the Big Woods by Laura Ingalls Wilder, few realize that it is a true story–not merely historical fiction fiction.
In this book, Laura was a young pioneer girl living in a log cabin in the Big Woods of Wisconsin. She describes the games she played with her sisters Mary and Carrie as children, the chores her Ma and Pa did together. She also describes how Pa hunts and Ma grows vegetables in her garden.
I really like this book because I love learning about the pioneer days. Her writing is beautiful and the way she describes the woods in snowy weather and the fun she had, makes you feel like you’re really there.
My favorite part is when Cousins Eliza, Alice, and Peter come with their Ma and Pa for Christmas. Santa Claus gives Laura a rag doll named Charlotte which she treasures and cherishes her whole childhood.
This book must be read by children and adults.
