Arrows soar overhead. A fire engulfs the forest. You seem to be in the arena, evading blood-thirsty rivals. But no, you are reading The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. Katniss Everdeen, 16 years old, is forced to participate in an annual adventure that may cost Katniss her life . The objective is to kill as many participants as possible, and try to be the last standing, while trying to survive in the harsh wilderness of the vast arena.
As the games begin, Katniss struggles to survive. She hunts for food and searches for water, while evading pursuers and traps. Katniss forms alliances with Peeta Mellark, a boy from her village. But Katniss finds something in her ally that she never would have expected in the dense forest arena- love.
Together, the two show how teamwork and love can keep them alive. But is the love on Katniss’s end real? She is afraid that the love for her partner in the games is not real. And then Katniss does something so daring, so rebellious that it’s likely that she has guaranteed her and Peeta’s death. The most dangerous part of the Hunger Games has begun.
Read Catching Fire, the fiery sequel to Hunger Games, and watch a rebellion in Panem unfold.
This suspenseful book had me on the edge of my seat the whole time! Read it if you enjoy stories about fights for survival and a touch of rebellion.
